NOT WATERPROOF! September 9, 2010 Brian R. Urquhart Just got back from Maui. Took it snorkling down to 15 ft and inner lens fogged up afterward. Water also inside battery compartment. 1st time I used it. Made sure nothing was prohibiting the seal, but still leaked. Sad. Also the lens gets dirty and scratched really fast (no cover from elements at all, always exposed.) Picture quality wasn't as good as my Nikon Coolpix. It seemed like some of the pictures were decent and then others were really grainy like it switched to 2 megapixels or soething. Colors are not natural, especially grass.
Novice September 6, 2010 Meredith L. Rivers (Chattanooga, TN) This camera is great & SUPER user friendly! I didn't have time to immediately read the booklet but was able to figure everything out that I needed for the first night. I have a Nikon SLR but wanted something small enough to throw in my purse. This camera is awesome and came recommended by our friends who have also enjoyed it. The quality of the picture is crisp and clear. I am impressed with the Panasonic Lumix. :-)
Great P&S camera, love it August 21, 2010 Bryon Studer 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this P&S as a replacement for a Canon that was left in the rain over night. This camera doesn't have the zoom our old one did, but it works well. Great picture and video quality. We used it on a vacation to Dollywood and Splash Country in TN. Worked great, it was wonderful to carry a camera and NOT have to worry about it getting wet or banging it into a ride. We captured our day at the water park, took pics and video all day. Battery life is quite good as well and can easily get an entire day of shooting. All that was expected. I read other reviews, and choose this camera over the Olymus...because of the picture quality. What surprised me was how well it did on landscapes and especially things like sunsets. The AI mode does very well. Overall very satisfied, could be a brighter lens, could have longer zoom...but for what it is...a bullet proof, water tight, easy to use pocket camera, we really like it.
Amazing water pics August 18, 2010 mom very impress with my outdoor and by the pool shots. Not so impress when flash is needed. Overall pics are clear, I had an old olympus water proof oen that we broke by leaving in the heat. I would say the pic quality her is better. The camera is a lot thicker and heavier than the Olympus tough
Hardened, tuff and dust proof....but... August 16, 2010 hikerted The camera does everything it says it will. I bought it as a P&S that would be impervious to the elements - something that I can casually toss in my backpack or take for a ride w/o worrying about dust or rain getting in to mess with the optics.
The only downsides are that
1) it doesn't do especially well with inside shots w/flash. Lots of my images turned out blurry or grainy (situations where my other Canon P&S wouldn't have any problems with).
2) the proprietary USB connection on the side of the camera is just that... Special, unique. You better not lose that cable that comes with the camera! I mean, really! Why did Panasonic have to do that? Everyone else in the industry has a "normal" mini-USB connector to hook up the camera to a PC. What were they thinking?
I've used this camera on the beach, while kayaking, out in the desert riding bikes and UTV's, backpacking in the rain - and it held up perfectly.
